Still Perfection

Lisa Nov 67

The other day as I lay in stillness at the end of my yoga practice a sensation came over me, one of equanimity, of wholeness -a rather unfamiliar but wonderfully delightful and nostalgic sense of seeing and experiencing pure peace, joy, and perfection. It washed over me and surrounded me as if I was marveling at something on the outside, someone else’s greatness.  Then I realized…this was the feeling I often had as a very young child. Pure peace and joy in who I am.

To know that it was all still there – the peace, the joy, the perfection –  despite the countless blemishes and scars of a well worn life gave me such resounding hope – hope for the child within me, hope for the child within you.

It is in there, always, forever, no matter what…that we are whole, perfect beings, each and every one of us, each and every moment of our existence.

We just need to remember that.

And, as long as we can remember we will know peace and joy.

As easily as a mark is left on the sand it is left on the heart.

Master of My Domain

Master of My Domain

To be the master of my domain does not mean to have ultimate power and be in control of everything.  Rather, it is to live in complete balance with all that exists in and around me and be in harmony with everything.

Step outside predictable.

beginSpontaneity, not to be confused with impulsiveness, is the ability to allow your inner guidance system to lead you to take appropriate action without hesitation to achieve the greatest benefit for you and those around you, regardless of any set plan.  Step outside predictable.  Exercise your creativity and welcome the joy and fulfillment that comes with true and clear present moment awareness.

When the Storm Rolls In

when-the-storm-rolls-in

When the storm rolls in, do you spread your branches and invite it in?

Do you tingle with anticipation as the wind presses against your skin?

As the sky darkens and clouds cluster, do you marvel at their majestic dance?

Do you breathe in the energy, feel the power, as it slowly builds its strength?

Do you know the humble quiet of just watching that storm grow?

Flashes of light, ripples of rumble, dewy droplets in the sky.

As it slowly wraps around you, can you hold peace in your heart and know your courage and your own might to welcome whatever it may bring?

There is the storm

and there is you.

Express Yourself

Practice spontaneity…not reckless abandon…rather transfer the decision making to your higher self.  Let your intuition choose what comes next and experience the ultimate form and expression of your creativity.

Do More…Try Less

img_1032When I “try” I am saying “a part of this doesn’t resonate with me.”

When I am “trying” I enter a space of potential failure, guilt, or shame.

Trying creates a river of resistance.

Instead, I think I will simply choose to “do” – do what feels right, do what I can do, do what resonates as what I am supposed to do.

Do without resistance.

Hard Work

img_0460

Compassion, peace, and calm cannot be forced.  One cannot demand that someone be compassionate.  One cannot command peace and calm.  Rather, one must model it, live it, and know that the path to peace in ourselves and others is a steady process of balancing ego and replacing envy and judgment with love and inspiration.  And that is the hard work that we must individually choose to do.

Play — Is it Really Just the Work of Children?

Yoga Play on Siesta Key

We all remember growing up.  The first time we twirled or rolled so much that laughter, interlaced with a smidgeon of fear, burst from within us as the world spun around uncontrollably and the mind tucked away a note to maybe spin a little less next time.  We sampled the roles of mommy or daddy, worker, leader, follower, and friend as we played dress up together or joined in team games on the playground.  We dropped objects from tables, stairwells, and out car windows with genuine awe as the mysteries of how these things worked unfolded before our very eyes.  We spontaneously erupted in play, as we naturally found new ways to move the body, new ways to see the world, new ways to feel connected with it all.

When children engage in play, they engage in an adventurous journey through the unknown.  Play allows you to take chances, to explore edges, to uncover workings of the physical body, subtleties in social and emotional dynamics, expressions of creativity, and to conduct investigations and form solutions through active problem solving.  Play is the foundation of learning.  Play is critical for growth.  Play is an essential element in the development of a bright, well-rounded, well-adjusted person.

Why then do we limit play to children?  Why, as they grow older, do we discourage children from going to this natural place of curiosity, wonder, and learning?  Why, when we become adults, does play disappear?

While there may be a question about whether you can form new neuron synapses or the brain can improve its functionality after a certain age, there is no question that play, at any age, provides an opportunity for exploration, sensation, and learning.

So, grab your neighbor’s hand and go run through that pile of leaves in the middle of the yard, or roll down that grassy hill, or scoop up some snow or sand and build with it. Dip your fingers in paint and slide them across an empty canvas.  Lie on your back, grab your feet and roll from side to side like a happy baby.  Smile, laugh, and dig deep down into your inner child and let it shine in the wonder, curiosity, and learning of play.

If you’re worried about what other folks may think as you get silly, serious, loud, or creative in your play, invite them to join in.  Free yourself and others from the misperception that there is no room in adulthood for play.  Engaging in play could be the best thing to keep you agile in mind, body, and spirit and ensure a lifetime full of curiosity, wonder, and awe.  Imagine what you might not discover, what you might not feel, what you might not learn, who you might not become if you never played.

Play is the work of children…and of healthy adults too.
