Real

When I feel angry, my world appears abrasive and confrontational.

When I am confused, all is cold and insensitive.

The more beautiful my world feels, the more gentle and receptive it seems.

As I play in this world with wonder, curiosity, and awe, the world invites me to laugh and be free.

When I feel wrapped in care and comfort, I find the world worthy of love.

My world is a reflection of my beliefs, a reflection of what I see on the inside.

My world gives me just what I see.

This is what is real, as long as this is the story I want to see.

Swinging on a Heart Thread

Working through the challenges of life is like swinging on the bars of a jungle gym. Each requires a certain amount of preparation, a great deal of follow through, and the ability to balance risk and excitement all for the sake of getting to the next rung.

Taking that leap…feeling that joy.

the view

I stand at the window looking outward. Not noticing the shining sun or the beautiful signs of life flowering around me. Instead I focus on the water spots, dust, and debris collected on the window pane. I am quick to blame outside factors for my spotty view.

But then I remember that I can wipe that window clean. It is not a conspiracy that the rain and flowers and earth have stirred up and thrown at me. They are not trying to obstruct my view. Rather they invite me to step outside, to clear the lens, and look in to see the beauty that lies there.

And so each time that window gets dirty, I know it is just a reminder to brush off the outside and look within. And when I focus inward with clarity, what I see looking outward shines more brightly too.

Rest for the Weary

Sleep evades me when my thoughts and emotions battle to define my reality.

When I look through the lens of fear and doubt, my eyes are reluctant to close as my body dwells in the space of my inadequacy.

If I could just soften the clenching, look another direction, allow my body to surrender to my inner knowing that all is ok, then I could dive in…dive in between the thoughts and feelings and their manifestation in my body, dive in to a space wide open where I can sort my experiences, face my decisions and choices, explore outcomes, and perceive failures and successes without consequence or judgement.

If I can just allow myself to dive in, I discover a playground in my dreams that frees me from the illusions of success or failure, where I always have the option to stop the experience or change its path.

And, then I awaken remembering that I have this same control, this same ability to change my experience, when I am awake as when I sleep.

I am no longer restless for I realize I am not my dreams, I am not my feelings, I am not my emotions – they are just the space in which I play.

I am the space of rest.

Nudge

Let the world press against you – not to criticize or judge you – but just to let you know where you are.

A Letter to My Children

hands

You stand here on the verge of opportunity, of expansive and lifelong joy and fulfillment, not because you are heading out into the world to receive knowledge, gifts, and experiences from the world, but because you are ready to take responsibility for who you are and the contributions you make to your world.

You hold within you everything you need, all the knowledge, all the guidance, all the tools, all the wisdom, to be great and to be happy, to feel and share goodness and empowerment.  Everything you need is right there within you.

Your generous spirit and your ability to make others laugh and feel cared for goes way back to when you were little.  Your empathy, sympathy, and compassion for others is great.  You were always the first to pick up a friend who tumbled, to offer your spot if it helped someone feel better, to clean up a mess that wasn’t yours, or to share a smile when no one else could find theirs.

Just be sure you have as much compassion, love, and kindness for yourself.

We know your missteps, your stumbles and wobbly choices were never intended to harm and were what you needed to do to learn the power of you, to learn how to listen not to what you think or feel should be done to please others but to rely upon your inner wisdom, the tiny little voice of your heart, that knows what is right…what is really right for you.  Because when you do what is right for you, it ends up making everything right around you.

Trust yourself more.  Know that you don’t have to make a big splash.  Honor your divine spirit and let your natural state of being sparkle.  Know that your true purpose is simply to do your best…and that is enough.  It truly is enough.

I will try to remember that too, especially when I pass judgment, apply expectations, and forget that you are not here to fill my dreams.

Live with vision, intention, and determination.  Stay accountable for your actions – feel your freedom and self-respect grow.  Go confidently forward and remain present, bypassing what might, should, and could have happened, and instead focus your energy on building a life around you of peace and acceptance.

You will most certainly face many challenges, sadness, failures, and pain. Remember those experiences are only there to help you dig deeper into discovering who you are.  Surrender your decision-making to your inner wisdom, listen to your deepest self and know your greater purpose.

You are no small part of anything. Remember your greatness, your power, your love, and your joy, always…and that is what I will remember of you.

Express Yourself

Practice spontaneity…not reckless abandon…rather transfer the decision making to your higher self.  Let your intuition choose what comes next and experience the ultimate form and expression of your creativity.

Adventurous

Adventurous

I never thought of myself as adventurous…but then again when joy and goodness are in the driver’s seat, anything can happen…if you just let it.  Put the peddle to the metal.

Play Day

a painting by Susan Kerr

a painting by Susan Kerr

Instead of calling it work and begrudging it, what if today you call it play.  Approach the to-do list with curiosity and wonder as if something new and exciting were about to unfold.  Carry a smile in your pocket and wish genuine happiness to all those around you.  Treat your space of work as a playground. Let your mind play tag with creativity.  Flow through tasks and conversations as if gliding across the monkey bars. Delight in small accomplishments with the same flutter in your belly as when you first learned to swing. Invite play into your day.  Feel big, free, and happy.
